on the shane dawson alex day thing: i haven't paid attention to whatever happened with alex but shane made a genuine apology video about black face and said he didn't know what he was doing. But then he made a video saying he wouldn't apologize for the rape jokes and all that because that is his comedy style. I f you wanna watch them they're both on his 2nd channel

Yeah I saw those and I’m still marinating. I understand not stopping black jokes and gay jokes or whatever because those are things people were just born into and while they can be distasteful, humor like that is existent; as someone who is very into comedy/comedians I understand the niche for humor like that (though I don’t necessarily appreciate it).

However, the rape jokes thing was like a punch in the gut. I would take a metaphorical bullet for Shane Dawson. He seems like a nice guy who’s just tryin’ to do what’s right, but as of late…he’s begun to feel a bit gross. It wasn’t until he said he wouldn’t apologize for the rape jokes that I actually got it. Like…as someone who is A) black but B) has never been sexually assaulted (at least to a traumatizing point) much less raped, I’d rather see Shane apologize for that.

When I say “Rape jokes are never funny”, that’s exactly what I mean. (Of course there is the gray area of satire, btbtp.) Shane obviously is unaware of how horrible that sounds and while he says people who criticize him are “haters”, wasn’t it the haters who helped you realize how offensive blackface was? Does rape need to have a historical significance for you to realize that it’s wrong?

So…while Shane has done a lot of good, he’s also been fairly harmful on promoting rape jokes which encourages rape culture and actual rape. He’s failing to see the big picture. I don’t support that at all.

(Sorry for any mistakes I’m on mobile)
